A key part of the Regional Team's role is to oversee preparations for the European Elections and I have been involved in that process since day one of my first term. From February to the end of July, in addition to my other duties, I was deeply involved in the arrangement of and carrying out of the selection process for our London team to fight the European Elections.
We have three of the hardest working MEP's in the country here in London and they are supported in turn by five accomplished and effective list candidates. I want to see through on the work I have started and to deliver the best possible set of results here in London.
I have been working hard in recent months taking every opportunity to ensure that the European Elections next year are properly supported and funded from the centre. They are a key step on the road to 2015 and I am pleased to advise that my efforts do seem to have produced the desired effect.
To those of you who joined me for the marathon set of meetings and interviews I chaired throughout 11th May when we readopted our three MEP's and chose the candidates for the ranking ballot for the other list positions may I, once again, extend a big thank you!
It was a great pleasure on 31st July to be able to unveil our final selections and to announce the order of the rankings. Since them I have been working with members of our team on the planning for the campaign and how that campaign is going to be funded.
I have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the European Elections next year are properly supported and funded, they are a key step on the road to 2015. I am pleased to advise that my efforts do seem to have produced the desired effect. Currently I am also deeply involved in working with our European team to put on a London wide fundraising event in the first part of 2014.
In that connection I was pleased to be able to announce that, given the commitments which Associations have as regards the local government campaign, I had agreed there will be no compulsory levy for the European Elections simply a request that Associations run one fundraising event between this October and April 2014 dedicated to the European elections.
"I have known Graham for many years; as an Association Chairman, Area Officer and now as Chairman of the London Region. He is widely respected as our Regional Chairman and is a diligent campaigner whose considerable experience enhances this important role."
Syed Kamall MEP
"I too have known Graham for many years and I have no hesitation in endorsing him again for the post he currently occupies so well and which is commensurate with his considerable political and personal skills."
Charles Tannock MEP
"Party unity is essential as we head towards the European elections. I've every faith that Graham will help secure victory for the Conservatives in London in 2014."
